Sooo who has terrible luck? ME!! It took us 4 hours (instead of the usual 3.5) to get to Clifton on Friday. Then, we ate super quick and left for JFK. It usually takes about an hour, but NOPE! SO MUCH TRAFFIC! Ahh it was terrible. And it took 3 whole hours. My flight was at 8:55 and the goal was to reach the airport at 7. Instead, we reached at 8 and I was so scared I was going to miss my flight. As expected, my bag was 6 pounds over and the lady gave me some trouble. And then the security line was so long! But alas I made it to my gate and boarding began at 8:45 instead of 8:15. So I get on the plane and find my seat and the pilot comes over the intercom and says that the flight has been delayed and we will be taking off at 9:30. Ughhhhh. Oh well. But no, he comes on again later and says it’ll be 10. What time did we leave? 11:30. At this point I’m kind of scared because if I don’t get to London before 12, ISA will leave without me and I’ll have to figure out how to get to my dorm by myself. And of course, the plane landed in Terminal 3 instead of Terminal 4, where the meeting spot was. So, I had to run through customs, quickly grab my bag (so glad I randomly spotted that green thing on the conveyor belt) and run to the Heathrow express train to Terminal 4. But, of course, the first train was coming to Terminal 5 and I had to wait 13 minutes for the train to Terminal 4. But all went well, and I met the ISA people at 11:45. I also ran into a girl that seemed like she was part of ISA so I just asked her, and it was true! So then we get our Oyster cards for transportation and hop on the bus to head to the apartments/dorms. Literally every single girl was wearing some sort of sorority shirt. It was kind of crazy. I didn’t expect it. We dropped off the people at the apartments first and then drove through the city and headed to the dorms. Jet lag was kicking in and it was so hard to stay awake. But we finally got here (Alexander Fleming) and checked into our rooms. I’m staying in B16.1, which is the top floor. I literally had to drag my giant bag up 4 flights up slippery steps, knowing my luck, I had the top floor. No elevators!!
I get my own little place and I share a bathroom with 4 others and 8 of us share a kitchen. It’s really clean and cute and I actually really like it. Of course, I spiced up my room a bit by adding my pink blanket and puppy. :)
So then I went out with a couple of people to walk around and check out some of the surrounding stores. All of the other people in ISA seem really nice. We later met up with others in the dorm to go grab some lunch/dinner (it was 4pm, but we hadn’t eaten all day). It was POURING! Ugh, that’s one thing I’m going to get annoyed about. The weather is so sporadic! Actually, it's just like Pittsburgh. We were all soaked. Of course, I’m the youngest once again. We found this little pizza place called Yard. The pizza was literally measured in yardstick sizes. Either way, it was yummy.
Later in the day, I met some my flatmates. They seem really chill. So then I just unpacked and chilled in my room.
I don’t really feel like I’m in London yet because the entire day has just been a settling in type of day. And, everything is in English :)
So far, so good.
Nervous about tomorrow. It will be a long day. London sightseeing and more info about classes.
Here’s to my first night in London.
Cheers. <3
